Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation – Review

maybelline dream velvet I purchased the Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation last week. I ordered it online at the webshop of Rossmann and I had a 40% discount with my Glamour magazine coupon. The first foundation I had in my life was the Maybelline Wonder Finish foundation. I really liked it and I felt sorry when they stopped producing it, so I had high hopes for the Dream Velvet as well.On the website of Maybelline, you can read that this foundation mattifies and hydrates at the same time and it leaves a fresh sensation on the skin. I got the shade 01 Natural Ivory without testing.

Because of the word “hydrating”, I expected a liquid consistency, but I was wrong. This is kind of a mousse foundation. Such foundation don’t usually work for me because they feel heavy on my skin and they wear off quickly. Anyway, I wanted to give it a chance.

maybelline dream velvetAt first glance, it looked a bit too dark, but once it is blended, it adapts to my skin tone nicely. Unfortunately, the Dream Blender sponge, that I had seen in several reviews, wasn’t available. First, I tried to apply it with a damp makeup sponge, but the coverage was too sheer, so I blended the second layer with a buffing brush. Its coverage is medium but it’s pleasant to wear.

maybelline dream velvet I find its scent too strong and perfumy. Onto the redness on my cheeks and the dark under-eye circles, I applied the Maybelline Fit Me! concealer. I set it with a little bit of Rimmel Stay Matte powder.

As far as longevity is concerned, unfortunately, it started to wear off on my chin and forehead after 1-2 hours and I also noticed that it had sat on some dry patches as well. I tried to improve its longevity by using the Essence Keep It Perfect! fixing spray, but it doesn’t help to last a lot a longer. During the day, I have to touch it up several times where it has worn off. If I have to wear foundation for a longer period of time, I’d rather use a different foundation.

All in all, it’s not a bad product. I like that it’s easy to blend and the shade is just right for me. I’m really sorry for not having been able to try it with the Dream Blend sponge. The only negative thing about it is that it’s not really long-lasting, so I think it’s not worth the money.
